Irena Kavcic, Flûte

Irena Kavčič (Slovenia, 1984) is a solo flutist in the RTV Slovenian Radio Symphony orchestra.

She graduated in 2008 from the Ljubljana Academy of Music, in the class of Karolina Šantl-Zupan. In 2011 she completed advanced studies at the Escuela Superior de Musica Reina Sofia in Madrid, with Jacques Zoon and Aniela Frey.

She was awarded numerous prizes and honors at national and international competitions, including most recently the Second Prize with Extimité Ensemble at the Fiorindo International Competition in Nichelino (Torino, 2010). She was the recipient of the Yamaha Scholarship and student Prešeren Award.

She has appeared as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral player in several countries, collaborating with the Mantova Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra Leonore, Aarhus Symphony, Aalborg Symphony, Ulster Orchestra etc. She has worked with conductors including Z. Mehta, L. Segerstam, G. Pehlivanian, M. Letonja, etc.

Irena Kavcic has been a member of Grupo de Musica Barocca Vivaldi de Eon, Grupo Poulenc, Wind Quintet Pentada, Flute quartet Nereide etc.

Her performances were recorded by Radio Clasica and RTV (National Spanish Radio and Television) and by ARS (National Slovenian Radio and Television).

She has performed at important festivals (Santander, Lockenhaus, Cortina d’ Ampezzo) and has appeared in prestigious venues including Berlin's Konzerthaus, Vienna’s Musikverein, Madrid's Auditorio Nacional and Valencia's Palau de la Musica.
